Trust begins before treatment

You do not have to hide your anxiety

Dental anxiety can have many causes: previous experiences, fear of pain, sounds, embarrassment about the condition of the teeth or the feeling of losing control in the dental chair. What matters to us is what affects you personally – not whether your reaction seems understandable to others.

Guide: preparing for the first appointment
1

Arrive without pressure to justify yourself

You share only as much as feels right. A simple statement such as “I am anxious about treatment” is enough to begin.

2

Clarify triggers and wishes

Together we discuss whether sounds, injections, previous experiences or loss of control are particularly difficult for you.

3

Agree on the process and a pause signal

Mr Spring explains the next steps in clear language. An agreed hand signal gives you additional control.

4

Proceed step by step

Treatment is divided into understandable stages. Questions and pauses are included as far as the clinical situation permits.

Music can move distracting sounds into the background

If you wish, you can listen to your own music or calm sounds through headphones during suitable treatment stages. This can redirect attention and make some practice sounds feel less prominent, while communication with the clinical team remains possible.

Calm visual material as an optional distraction

Alternatively, calm images or video can provide a visual point of focus. Whether you prefer music, visuals, both, or an environment with as little stimulation as possible, you decide together with us what feels right.

Music and visual material are supportive distraction options. They do not replace individual assessment or, where necessary, psychological treatment for a pronounced dental phobia.

Frequently asked questions

Five common questions from anxious patients

Clear answers can make the next step more predictable. We discuss further personal questions with you in confidence.

Can the first appointment be just for meeting and talking?
Yes. If the dental situation allows, the first appointment can primarily be used to discuss your wishes, previous experiences and possible triggers. An examination or treatment only takes place after it has been explained and agreed with you.
Should I mention my dental anxiety when booking?
That is helpful. A brief note is enough and allows our team to prepare for a calm welcome and sufficient time for discussion. You do not have to justify your anxiety or explain it in detail on the phone.
Can I listen to music or watch calming visuals during treatment?
If you wish, music through headphones or calm visual material can be used as a distraction. Some people find this pleasant. We discuss beforehand what suits you; a particular effect cannot be guaranteed.
Can I ask for a pause at any time?
Before starting, we agree on a clear pause signal, such as raising a hand. When you use it, we stop the treatment step as soon as it is medically safe to do so and calmly explain what happens next.
How are treatment costs explained for anxious patients?
Dental anxiety itself does not automatically result in a particular price. The type and extent of the required dental treatment determine the costs. Before treatment, you receive clear information and a transparent cost estimate based on the findings and planned services.
